Description

This video is a tool-assisted speedrun, visit http://tasvideos.org for more information. Check this page for more information about the run and my comments: http://tasvideos.org/6872S.html

This tool-assisted speedrun by me aims to beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as fast as possible without any restriction, also known as "any%".

It was made on an emulator, using frame-by-frame shooting, savestates, and rerecords to overcome things like reaction time and human error. As such, it is purely a form of entertainment, and is not designed to show skill.

Check out http://zeldaspeedruns.com/ for any information on glitches and sequence breaks in any of the most popular Zelda games.

This TAS improves the previous any% run by 16.94 seconds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndWTfeJ5yKo).
Time was saved thanks to a new way of achieving credits using the "Stale Reference Manipulation" glitch (SRM) for the game to execute controller 1 and 3 inputs as MIPS instructions, which is known as Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE). Other small improvements were also made thanks to faster movements and better luck manipulation.
For technical details about SRM and ACE, I advise you to check these videos:

Overview of these glitches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPi_d0zhNFc
How we exploit it (outdated route, but the idea is the same): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdRJWDKb5Bo

Special thanks to MrCheeze for the initial ACE setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTKvGcj_oHI
Special thanks to Tharo for adapting MrCheeze's route for TAS to reach the credits faster: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtMnx42W5E6lnYgQ3QXF14g

Re-Records: 9,432 (not accurate because of inputs taken from the previous TAS)

Note: The video is only in 240p because of syncing issues with higher resolutions. If this run is accepted on tasvideos.org, a higher resolution encode will be provided that I will link here.

Enjoy !!
