It's been a long time coming, but the TAS with Sonic is finally complete. This was planned even before the Amy TAS was done and I learned a lot of things about the game along the way.
The TAS was done in version 2.2.6. That was the current version when I started, and the new updates broke it, so I decided to stick with the old version.
As with the Amy TAS, a few slight modifications were made to the game to make this TAS work properly:
- A fixed RNG seed. This is technically possible to achieve without modifying the game, but it is tricky due to how the seed is calculated on subsequent launches.
- Modifications to Castle Eggman Zone Act 1 and Black Core Zone Act 2 to get rid of music fades which caused libTAS to crash. This issue was fixed already, but updating libTAS broke my inputs, so I had to stick with the old version.
In a few levels, some faster strats were found after I had completed the level, but they weren't implemented because they didn't allow me to catch an earlier cycle later in the level and ultimately, I'd end up with the same clear time. For that reason, I decided not to redo the whole level to include them.
This has been an interesting and exciting project. I hope the end result is worth watching. Enjoy!
